

We are inviting residents with a passion for Bishop Auckland to join a vital board helping to shape the future of the town.
Following recent changes to the Bishop Auckland Town Board, we are inviting applications from residents with a skill set that will add value to the board’s existing structure and delivery.
The Towns Fund is a £3.6 billion resource established by the government to level up towns and cities across the county, while attracting jobs and long-term investment.
Successful delivery
Established in February 2020, the Bishop Auckland Town Deal Board was set up to oversee the spending and allocation of these funds.
Since then, the board has overseen the production of the Bishop Auckland Town Investment Plan and successfully secured £33.2m of UK Government Stronger Towns funding.
As the programme enters the implementation phase of many of the individual projects it has administered, it is important the board continues to work closely with local businesses, community organisations and residents of the town to ensure successful delivery.

Cllr Karen Allison, our Cabinet member for leisure, tourism and high street, said: “The Bishop Auckland Town Board is an important asset to the community, and these vacancies provide a great opportunity for residents with a passion for the town to get involved in its future.
“It’s an exciting time for the board as it enters the delivery phase of many of its projects, so if a resident feels they can bring something to the role, we encourage them to apply as soon as they can.”
How to apply
The recent changes bring three openings for new board members who would help provide delivery. Expressions of interest should be submitted on no more than two pages of A4 and should highlight previous experience, credentials and the skills people can bring to the board.
While interest in the role will be welcomed from all, applications from local business leaders, community representatives and public sector organisations are encouraged and preferred.
Applications should be submitted to bishopaucklandregen@durham.gov.uk by Friday 3 October with interviews taking place the week commencing Monday 13 October.
