Heritage Walking and Cycling Routes

Stronger Towns Fund

The Heritage Walking and Cycling Route will provide Active Mode walking and cycling from St Helens Auckland to Bishop Auckland Market Place.

Linking residential, employment and retail locations across the town centre via accessible sustainable travel routes will reduce the reliance on car journeys which will improve air quality, noise and access to free and low cost travel for people in the area.

Update on project

The team are currently completing the footpath base layer between Station Road in St Helen Auckland and the proposed location of the new Gaunless Bridge. This section of the route is being laid over the scheduled monument and has been upgraded to a formal Public Right of Way. The final surface at this location will be completed once the bridge is installed.
